    Invited oral evidence and a written report on 29/30 November 2006. Alexander’s analysis of the inadequacy of UK financial regulation in the 1980s and 1990s is adopted by the Committee in its Final Report on the crisis at page 161 and the benefits of EU legislation for the UK financial sector at page 134. His assessment of the gaps in EU investor and policyholder protection law is cited favourably (pp. 285-86), and his proposal that the EU adopt a version of US-style class action lawsuits to be used by EU investors and policyholders is cited as the basis for further EU legislative reform in this area (pp. 302-303).
