Student research project

At the Chair of Prof. Loacker, you can write case studies, proseminar, Bachelor's and Master's theses during your studies and depending on the semester offered.

Dissertation projects require a prior individual agreement with the chair holder (see below).

Please note that the framework regulation in the current version applies to written work.

Case Study Classes

Subject to more recent information, the following specifications apply:

For a case study of 3 ECTS, the following specifications apply - excluding cover sheet, indexes and declaration of independence:

  • Maximum 24'000 characters (corresponds to approx. 12 pages of text).
  • The maximum number of characters is to be understood with spaces; footnotes do not count towards the maximum length.

Please note that due to the Bologna-2021 study reform, case work in the assessment as well as in the advanced level can now only be repeated twice and a failure will result in a failed attempt.

Proseminar theses

If our department organises proseminars, you will find the corresponding information in the course catalogue.

For a proseminar paper of 3 ECTS, the following specifications apply - excluding cover sheet, indexes and declaration of independence:

  • Maximum 30,000 characters (corresponds to approx. 15 pages of text).
  • The maximum number of characters is to be understood with spaces; footnotes do not count towards the maximum length.

Bachelor's theses

In principle, Prof. Loacker only supervises Bachelor's theses within the framework of a seminar. Exceptions can be made in individual cases in the area of technology law.

For a Bachelor's thesis of 6 ECTS, the following specifications apply in terms of length - excluding cover sheet, indexes and declaration of independence:

  • Maximum 40,000 characters (corresponds to approx. 20 pages of text).
  • The maximum number of characters is to be understood with spaces; footnotes do not count towards the maximum length.

Master's theses

In principle, Prof. Loacker only supervises Master's theses within the framework of a seminar. Exceptions can be made in individual cases in the area of technology law.

For a Master's thesis of 12 ECTS, the following specifications apply in terms of length - excluding cover sheet, indexes and declaration of independence:

  • Maximum 60,000 characters (corresponds to approx. 30 pages of text).
  • The maximum number of characters is to be understood with spaces; footnotes do not count towards the maximum length.

The Master's thesis agreement (available from the chair) requires the following information in particular:

  • Matriculation number
  • Semester number
  • Title of the thesis

Dissertation projects

The supervision of a dissertation project is possible in the following subject areas:

  • Code of Obligations, in particular contract, liability and consumer law
  • European Private Law
  • CISG/PICC/PEICL/PRICL
  • Private International Law and Civil Procedure
  • Comparative Private Law
  • Technology Law

An application for supervision, which should be sent directly to the chair holder by e-mail, should be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • complete academic transcripts/credentials
  • PDF version of the Master's thesis
  • if there is already a concrete project draft: Working title and brief description (max. four pages)
  • otherwise: restriction to one of the above-mentioned research topics as well as a rough outline of the desired topic
  • if available: References
