Prof. Niamh Moloney, Visiting Professor spring semester 2016

Prof. Moloney is one of the leading experts in European financial market law, especially financial market supervisory and regulatory law. She is particularly well-known thanks to her research on topics such as “The EU as a driving force in the process of reforming global financial markets: challenges and opportunities for third countries”, “Future strategies in the regulation and supervision of financial markets in the EU”, and “Experience with the perception of supervisory and regulatory tasks by supranational bodies such as ESMA”. Prof. Moloney has been a professor at the London School of Economics since 2009. Previously, she was Professor of Capital Markets Law at the University of Nottingham, having been a Reader in Law, Queen's University Belfast and lecturer at the University of Nottingham and University College London. She acquired an LLB at Trinity College in Dublin and an LL.M. at Harvard Law School. She has already completed visiting professorships at Columbia Law and at the House of Finance, Frankfurt. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Academy of European Law in Trier. Prof. Moloney’s expertise is sought after nationally and internationally, as is clear from the following roles she holds: European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA; member); advisory Securities and Markets Stakeholder Group (advisor), Consumer Advisory Group, Central Bank of Ireland; Trustee, Board of Trustees, Academy of European Law; and Specialist Adviser, 2014 House of Lords EU Select Committee Inquiry on Review of the EU Financial Regulatory Framework; member of the UK Financial Conduct Authority’s Financial Services Consumer Panel; expert witness to UK Parliament select committee inquiries on EU financial market matters.
