It is a non-profit educational association. SCFL regularly holds conferences as well as lunch seminars and provides a forum for diverse perspectives from civil and common law. Lunch Seminar on Swiss Sustainable Finance Regulation

A timely lunch seminar took place on Wednesday, 3 December 2025, hosted by the Competence Center of Sustainability: Finance, Law, Science and the Humanities at the University of Zurich.

Under the title “Swiss Sustainable Finance Regulation – At A Crossroads?”, the session explored the latest developments in sustainable finance regulation in Switzerland, including key policy shifts, regulatory challenges and the broader international context.

Vanderbilt-Zurich Transatlantic Dialogue on Corporate and Financial Market Law

On May 27, 2024, the jointly organized conference 'Entrepreneurship, Markets and Technology: Regulation's Challenges in a Changing World', convened by Vanderbilt Law School and University of Zurich Law School , brought together leading academics, practitioners and policymakers from the U.S. and Europe to explore how innovation in technology, financial markets and entrepreneurship is transforming regulation.

Held at the Small Aula (RAA-G-01), Rämistrasse 59, 8001 Zurich, the hybrid conference addressed topics such as digital assets, open-source banking, AI in finance and cross-border funding strategies.

The agenda featured sessions on financial regulation and institutional complexity; sustainability and technology for regulators and firms; cross-border venture and credit financing; and digital assets with European-U.S. comparative perspectives.

By fostering a dialogue at the intersection of entrepreneurship, markets and regulatory frameworks, the event underscored the importance of actionable ideas to equip the next generation of financial markets and governance systems.

SCFL Lecture by Dr. Tadas Zukas on 'How to (not) regulate sustainable finance: Experiences from capitals of capital'

On May 3, 2024, Dr. Tadas Zukas, Global Lead Senior Legal Counsel Sustainability/ESG at Vontobel Zurich, delivered an engaging lecture as part of the 2024 Society of Commercial and Financial Law (SCFL) Lecture Series.

In his talk, titled 'How to (not) regulate sustainable finance: Experiences from capitals of capital', Dr. Zukas explored the evolving landscape of sustainable finance regulation, drawing on first-hand insights from major financial centers. His presentation combined legal, practical, and strategic perspectives on ESG governance, sparking lively discussion among participants.

The lecture took place at the Law Faculty, University of Zurich, and attracted a diverse audience of students, academics, and professionals interested in the intersection of law, finance, and sustainability.

The event formed part of SCFL's ongoing effort to foster dialogue on contemporary issues in commercial and financial law.

CLDS & SCFL Joint Conference of 'Recent Developments in Commercial and Financial Law: Insights from Law and Data'

On March 7, 2024, the Society of Commercial and Financial Law (SCFL) together with the Center for Legal Data Science (CLDS), in association with Loyens & Loeff, hosted a conference at the University of Zurich, Faculty of Law, under the title 'Recent Developments in Commercial and Financial Law: Insights from Law and Data'.

The event brought together academics, industry practitioners and regulators to examine how data and technology are reshaping commercial and financial law, including governance by data, decentralized governance in crypto-environments and challenges around algorithmic sourcing of datasets.

The event formed part of SCFL’s and CLDS’s continuing efforts to generate dialogue at the intersection of law, finance, data and regulation.

SCFL Conference 2022 - Sustainability in Commercial and Financial Law

On November 9, 2022, the Society of Commercial and Financial Law (SCFL) in partnership with the University of Zurich Faculty of Law hosted a hybrid conference entitled 'Sustainability in Commercial and Financial Law'.

The discussion centred on how commercial and financial law are evolving in response to environmental and social sustainability imperatives, bringing together academics, practitioners and in-house counsel.

The event forms part of SCFL’s sustained efforts to deepen the dialogue around sustainability in the regulatory, commercial and financial-law sectors.
