Sports Arbitration Moot

The Sports Arbitration Moot (SAM) is an international competition that simulates the resolution of legal disputes in the field of sports through arbitration. The competiton consists solely of oral pleadings, meaning that teams are not assessed on the submission of written memoranda.

General Information

The competition begins in mid-November with the publication of the case on the https://www.sportsarbitrationmoot.com/. The case is structured as an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). While the subject matter of the appeal varies each year, it always relates to a specific sport. All pleadings are conducted in English.

Before the General Rounds, a preparatory course calles the SAM Camp will be held online. The General Rounds themselves will also take place online in March. During these rounds teams will present their arguments before panels of three arbitrators, composed of experienced professors and legal practioners in the field of sports law.

The top 16 teams will qualify for the SAM Elimination Rounds, which will take place in person in Madrid in May.
