Topic of the Thesis: The position of women in the labor market of Zurich around 1900 – The legislation for the protection of female workers in the canton of Zurich

Abstract: The present dissertation project is situated at the intersection of labor law, women’s rights law, and legislative legal history. It examines the Zurich Female Workers’ Protection Act of 1894, a pioneering legislative measure that explicitly regulated the working conditions of female workers and apprentices for the first time. This protective law established fundamental labor and gender protection standards in the areas of health, youth employment, wages, and dismissal protection. At the core of this study lies a comprehensive analysis of the legislation, taking into account its broader historical context. Furthermore, a comparative legal examination is conducted, including an analysis of similar regulations in other European countries.

Topic of the Thesis: The Peace Process in the Northern Ireland Conflict and comparison to Peace Treaty Negotiations in other Asymmetric Conflicts

Abstract: The following project is rooted in the legal-historical analysis of the peace process in the Northern Ireland Conflict, also known as The Troubles. The conflict spanned over 30 years and was caused by sectarian divide as a result of colonization of Ireland by the British. This project will compare the first, failed attempt at peace, the Sunningdale Agreement, and the ultimately successful Good Friday Agreement. Attention will be paid to the Human Rights dimension as well as how third parties, like the USA, influenced the peace process. Additionally, similar asymmetric conflict and their peace processes will serve as points of comparison.
