Supervision of dissertations

Prof. Babusiaux supervises dissertations in the fields of Roman law, private law, and comparative private law.

Before inquiring about a dissertation, you should familiarize yourself with the regulations and provisions relevant to doctoral studies. These can be found on the University of Zurich website under doctoral studies.

Once you have familiarized yourself with the requirements, please contact us by mail or email (ulrike.babusiaux@ius.uzh.ch). When making initial contact, it is helpful if you submit your CV and transcripts and provide detailed information about your planned project (subject area, topic if applicable). After reviewing these documents, Prof. Babusiaux will contact you and, if applicable, invite you to a personal interview. The purpose of this preliminary interview is to clarify the topic to be addressed in the dissertation project and to provide further suggestions. It is advisable to think in advance about which subject areas or topics might be suitable for you. Once the topic has been determined, an outline must first be prepared and submitted. After discussing the outline, the next steps will be determined.

It is the responsibility of prospective doctoral candidates to clarify whether the topic they have in mind is already the subject of another dissertation (see Documentation Center for Legal Dissertations at register of legal dissertations).

The progress of the project and any difficulties encountered should be discussed with Prof. Babusiaux at regular intervals. To do so, please arrange an appointment with Ms. Yvonne Kastner: yvonne.kastner@ius.uzh.ch. It is advisable to inform Ms. Kastner immediately of any changes to your contact details so that the chair can contact you at any time.
