Nordic Centre For Comparative and International Family Law (NorFam)

Christiane von Bary is now International Corresponding Member of The Nordic Centre for Comparative and International Family Law (NorFam). NorFam is the Nordic hub for collaborative research between scholars in the fields of family and succession law, and between legal scholars and family-related research in other academic fields such as sociology, psychology, theology, medicine, gender studies led by Jens Scherpe (Aalborg University, Denmark). One important objective of NorFam is building a network of family lawyers in the Nordic countries and beyond, with a particular focus on supporting early career researchers through annual Early Career Colloquia.

The 10th Journal of Private International Law Conference in London has just ended and this also means the planning for the next 11th Journal of Private International Law Conference taking place in Zurich is underway. Please save the date: 1–3 April 2027

The conference organizers Tanja Domej (University of Zurich) and Christiane von Bary (University of Zurich), and the editors of the Journal, Paul Beaumont (University of Stirling) and Jonathan Harris (King’s College London), are looking forward to welcoming many of you in Switzerland!

Gestaltungsfreiheit im Privatleben

Im November 2025 ist unter dem Titel „Gestaltungsfreiheit im Privatleben – Eine Rechtsgeschäftslehre für ein autonomiegeprägtes Familienrecht“ die Habilitationsschrift von Christiane von Bary erschienen und open access hier verfügbar. Gestaltungsfreiheit ist im Privatleben von großer Bedeutung, weil Lebensgestaltung, Identität und Persönlichkeit betroffen sind. Das Buch zeigt, wie Selbstbestimmung im Familien- und Personenrecht durch den Abschluss von Rechtsgeschäften technisch umgesetzt und praktisch verwirklicht wird und werden sollte.
