Register for Graduation
Apply for graduation
Bachelor's and Master's students must apply for graduation in the “Study Progress & Graduation” app in the semester in which the degree programme is to be completed. The appication for graduation can be submitted as soon as the grades of the booked modules appear in the system.
You can find all graduation and recognition and transfer of credit dates under Dates and deadlines.
Register your degree correctly
We would like to draw your attention to the following points so that you can register your degree in full with all your desired and required achievements:
- If you want to have achievements from another university recognized for your degree, you must submit all requested documents via the contact form under the item «Credit transfer and recognition (during last semester)». The deadlines for recognition and transfer of credit requests can be found under Dates and deadlines.
- In some situations, you may or may not need to assign or remove your coursework: If you do not achieve the required ECTS credits with the law-related achievements, you can assign extracurricular achievements or language courses to the area «Other Academic Achievements counted toward Degree» in the processing area «Individual Academic Achievements: Total ECTS credits coursework from another faculty» (only in the Bachelor Mono Study Program and in the Master of Law UZH Law).
- In the case of surplus law-related achievements completed in the same semester, you must decide in the processing area «Surplus Academic Achievements in Mono» which achievements should not be credited towards the degree.
- If you want surplus or unusable achievements to appear in the Academic Record, you must select them in the processing area «Individual Academic Achievements» and assign them to the area «Academic Achievement Not Counted toward Degree: On Academic Record: Total ECTS credits».
- You can leave achievements with 0.00 ECTS Credits in «Not allocated». You can also leave achievements that you want to use in the Master's degree or for another degree program in this area. You can use the filter «Hide Achievements with 0 ECTS Credits» to simplify your selection.
We will accept your submitted degree proposal and only make changes to it if it does not meet the legal requirements.
Recognition of academic achievements towards the degree
The "Study Progress & Graduation" app automatically assigns the modules in the order they were completed:
- First, all compulsory and elective modules required for the degree are credited.
- Then, additional law modules (elective and required elective modules) that were not credited in the first step are considered.
Non-faculty modules (from other faculties) are only credited if the required ECTS credits cannot be achieved through faculty modules. Students can choose which non-faculty modules they want to have credited. These modules are listed under "Individual Academic Achievements" and their allocation is done under "Additional Academic Achievements."
For faculty modules, the chronological order always applies. In both the Bachelor's and Master's programs, up to 6 ECTS credits from non-faculty modules can be credited if the required credits from faculty modules are not sufficient.
If not all required credits for the degree are earned through faculty modules and thus non-faculty modules are also considered, it may happen that a faculty module is not needed to reach the required total of ECTS credits for the degree. In this case, it is considered surplus and is not credited toward the degree.
Example: For the Bachelor's degree, 177 ECTS credits from faculty modules have been completed. Among them is a faculty elective module worth 3 ECTS credits. Additionally, a non-faculty module worth 6 ECTS credits was completed.
-> The non-faculty module must be credited for the degree, but this makes the faculty elective module worth 3 ECTS credits surplus, as the required 180 ECTS credits for the degree are reached even without this module.
-> The 3 ECTS credit faculty module will not be credited toward the degree.
Recognition and acceptance of academic achievements at other universities
Recognition and acceptance of language courses
Language certificates will be transmitted to the Faculty of Law automatically at the end of each semester and shown in your transcript of records. You do not need to do anything else.
